Trent Quilters

A group initiated at Trent University will return for a third anniversary celebration on Saturday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Trent Evening Quilters host "Busier than a Bee." The day-long session includes a quilting bee, a quilt show, demonstrations and a gathering of people interested in this art form.

This group of quilters first met at Trent University in January, 1999 while quilt-maker Alice Williams worked as a Trent artist-in-residence. She and others decided to start an evening guild to welcome working women who could not join daytime guilds. Since then, more than 60 women have joined the group. A core of 35 members meets monthly, although no longer at Trent, having outgrown the space offered at Champlain College.

At the invitation of Champlain College master Stephen Brown, they return to Trent this month, eager to share their talents and knowledge with members of the public. Anyone interested can pick up a needle that day and join in the fun. Quilt appraiser Diane Shink will give written estimates to anyone with a family heirloom or a piece they want to insure. To make an appointment, please call 876-1159.

This session is the first in a series of monthly events to celebrate the talents of artists affiliated with Trent University.
