Trent University celebrates 35th anniversary October 17
with "Passport to Trent Baby" in Peterborough and Oshawa

PETERBOROUGH -- Trent University commemorated its 35th anniversary of official opening on Sunday, October 17, 1999 by providing one year of free tuition to a baby born at hospitals in its campus cities of Peterborough and Oshawa.

"Passport to Trent" babies born yesterday are: Chelsea Lynn Crough, daughter of Kelly Speer and Rob Crough (Peterborough Regional Health Centre) and Zachary Martin Michel, son of April Chartrand and Martin Michel (Lakeridge Health Corporation in Oshawa).

Trent University President Bonnie Patterson will visit Chelsea's parents in Peterborough with the certificate marking her "Passport to Trent," and Vice-President Advancement Susan Mackle was to visit Zachary's parents at the Lakeridge Health Corporation in Oshawa. Along with the certificate serving as the child's future "Passport to Trent," the parents were given Trent-green baby t-shirts with the university logo and the words "Trent Class of 201?"

"Trent is delighted to possibly share in the future education of these children born on our 35th anniversary," said President Patterson. "We congratulate their parents and hope that Trent University will contribute to the academic development of their children."
