'' Web Site Links Career Interests with University Programs

A new Web site entitled '' will enable Peterborough and Ontario students to explore university programs and career options.

The site was developed collaboratively by Ontario universities, including Trent University, to enable high school students to identify their career interests and relate them to programs offered at Ontario universities.

"Trent is proud to be a part of this service for students," said Susan Salusbury, Trent's Registrar. "This new Web site will let students from across the province know that Trent offers a wide range of arts and science programming and profiles both our Peterborough and Oshawa campuses."

Although accessible to everyone, this online program will be especially useful to students in Grades 9 and 10 who must make decisions on high school course selections that will affect their eligibility for admission to university programs. " will help students early in their academic career to make informed choices about their education," said Salusbury.

"Keeping students informed about the full range of educational choices available to them so they can keep pace with today's rapidly changing workplace is essential," said Dianne Cunningham, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. "This Web site is another useful tool that students and parents can use to plan more effectively for the future."

At, students are guided by an animated character who collects the information in a knapsack as they move through the program, making their visit both informative and fun. The program also allows students to connect to other sites (such as those focused on career planning and application procedures), while a "tips" section offers helpful hints when considering university options.

The program, which was researched and developed by a Council of Ontario Universities Task Force, is administered by the Ontario Universities Application Centre on behalf of Ontario universities.
