Lady Eaton College to host presentations on China

China will be the focus of a series of special events at Trent University's Lady Eaton College on March 7th and 8th.

The series begins with a presentation followed by a discussion by Chinese students as part of Interact With the World at Trent. Chinese students will host a special evening entitled, "Mysterious China," on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the LEC Senior Common Room. Interact is a series of discussions on cultural issues by international students or faculty who make presentations about their country of origin. Previous events featured Ukraine, Philippines, and Germany.

In honour of Women's Day, Lady Eaton College has organized a half-day symposium on Women in China. Two well-known specialists in the field of women's studies and the history of women in China will make presentations at the Lady Eaton College Senior Common Room on Friday, March 8 from 2 - 6 p.m.

The symposium speakers are:

Professor Robin D.S. Yates (PhD, Harvard) is an author of the serial publications, "Science and Civilisation in China" (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press) and teaches in the History Department at McGill University. He specializes in the history of traditional China, especially in Chinese science, technology and philosophy, and in Chinese military history. For 2000-2002 he is holding the prestigious Killam Research Fellowship.

Professor Grace Fong (PhD, UBC) is the Director of the Centre for Women's Studies at McGill University, and the author of a number of influential publications on the history of women's literature in China.

These events are free and open to the public.
