Volunteer opportunity for students, staff and faculty

Trent University, in support of Junior Achievement, is offering an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to become involved in the Economics of Staying in School (ESIS) program.

The program is looking for volunteers to work with Grade 8 students in the Kawartha Pine Ridge and Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, Clarington Catholic District school boards.

ESIS is a highly interactive program designed to help students develop a positive attitude toward education while recognizing the financial costs of living on their own. Using materials provided by Junior Achievement, volunteers will spend one day in April helping to develop leadership and presentation skills with these young learners as well as educating the students about careers in industry and the importance of staying in school.

Volunteers would be required to attend a two-and-a-half hour training session followed by one full school day with a group of Grade 8 students during the month of April to deliver the program.

"This is an opportunity to reach out to our community and to model the importance of education in the lives of these future citizens," says Marlene White, community partnerships at Trent. "Last year, a number of Trent faculty, staff and students volunteered their time to work in our local schools and all were positive about their experiences."

This year we are once again inviting Trent community members to become a part of this very worthwhile venture. Please visit http://www.jaeastontario.com/volunteer%20registration%202004-2005.pdf
for a registration form or contact Kathleen Hutton or Terri Milburn at Junior Achievement 905-432-2492.

If you would like further information on the program, please contact Ms. White, marlenewhite@trentu.ca.
