Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Siemens Milltronics and Trent celebrate a new partnership in continuing education

Siemens Milltronics and Trent University have celebrated a new partnership in continuing education. The first graduates of German language studies at Siemens Milltronics received their certificates in a special ceremony held May 27.

Since October 2001, the company has sponsored German language training twice a week for employees who want to enhance their ability to communicate with German colleagues. The classes are conducted by Ilona Wille, an instructor from the German Department at Trent University.

The graduating class includes Mike Cavanagh, Hazel Hewitt, Craig Merchant, Andrew Soldzien, Jim Watson, and Ian van Zyl. They successfully completed all eight modules of the course, including assignments, tests and a final exam. They committed many hours of personal time to obtain the equivalent of a first year university credit in German. Another nine employees are enrolled in a second class that has just finished module four.

"It’s fun to learn another language," says Hazel Hewitt, one of the proud graduates. "Learning about the German language and culture helps us better understand our German colleagues, and it certainly helps us communicate more effectively."

Siemens Milltronics Process Instruments Inc. is a Siemens company that designs and manufactures sophisticated measurement instruments used by the water and wastewater, aggregate, cement, mining, chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, milling, food and other process industries. Principal product lines include level measurement, dry solids flow measurement, and process protection devices. Products are available worldwide through a network of sales offices, representatives and distributors.

"This is exactly the type of result Trent University’s Continuing Education program strives for," said Murray Genoe, Associate Dean and Principal of Julian Blackburn College. "Our professional education series tailors its programs to help corporations achieve their goals. We enjoyed working with the team at Siemens Milltronics and look forward to the next session with a whole new group of employees."
