Trent athlete brings home gold

Trent swim team member Alex Babaris brought home a gold medal in the 50 m. butterfly from the Ontario University Athletics championships at Brock University on Saturday, February 1.

Mr. Babaris has been performing well all season, setting new records and garnering top standings at many events.

At the February 1 event, Trent swim coach Sean Dwyer was also named Coach of the Year. "Sean is an excellent coach and we were very happy to see him recognized," said Trent Athletics Director Bill Byrick.

The Trent team placed ninth overall at the OUA championships, and three team members qualified to compete in the Canadian finals in two weeks. These will be held in Victoria, B.C.

On campus this past Saturday, 25 competitors turned out for the first-ever nordic ski event held at the University. Organized by student Stephen Dunbar, a member of Trent‚s nordic ski team, the course started at the main field adjacent to the Athletic Complex, and the event was kicked off by Trent President Bonnie Patterson.
