New TCSA executive and awards

ELECTED FOR 1999-2000

Dave Powrie, a third-year Administrative Studies student, was recently elected President of the Trent Central Student Association. He succeeds David Wallbridge who was elected student representative on the university Board of Governors.

Matt Griem, in second-year Political Studies, is Vice-President Student Issues; Brandy Patterson, a third-year Geography student, is Vice-President Student Services; Paul Kelly, in second-year Administrative Studies, Vice-President Finance. Nathalie Fournier, a third-year Biology and Environmental Science student, was elected Vice-President Operations.

FIRST AWARD WINNERS

The Trent Central Student Association has announced the winners of the first-ever Trent University Student Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding participation and leadership.

Honourees are Kim McCarthy, a third-year student who is co-ordinator of the Trent Queer Collective and a founding member of the Women's Studies Student Association. She is also a volunteer with the Peterborough AIDS Resource Network and a member of the Rainbow Service Organization Board of Directors. She is a Women's Studies and Cultural Studies major.

Fourth-year student Holly Morrison has played an active role in student government as a member of the Champlain College Cabinet and the TCSA Board of Directors. She has also been a student Human Rights Advocate and has been involved with the Trent Fashion Show and the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre.

Philippa Steele has choreographed and performed as a dancer in the Trent Fashion Show and has been active in athletics, specifically with the Trent Ultimate Frisbee Team. Phillipa is a fourth-year student, currently completing an undergraduate thesis in Biology and is a Biology teaching assistant.

In announcing the awards, TCSA President Wallbridge said he hoped the award will become "a great tradition. The contributions of those selected have certainly enriched both the Trent and Peterborough communities."
