September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day dedicated to acknowledging the intergenerational impact of residential schools while honouring the process of reconciliation. This is a day for everyone to reflect on the history between First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and settler Canadians and to further our understanding of the injustices of the last centuries.
We encourage all members of our community to take this day as an opportunity for self-reflection, learning, and dialogue about the ongoing journey toward reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Canada. This day serves as a reminder of the lasting impact of residential schools and the need for truth, healing, and change. Let us use this occasion to deepen our understanding, foster empathy, and renew our dedication to the path of reconciliation.
In advance of the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation, orange shirts designed by local Ojibwe artist Misokomin Kwe (Sabrina Fontaine) are being sold for $30 and are available for purchase from the Trent Central Student Association office. All sales from the Orange Shirt Campaign will be donated to local Indigenous organizations.
