Trent University, Durham College Establish Five New Diploma-to-Degree Pathways in Policing, Political Studies
New college-to-university agreements enhance opportunities for students to obtain both diploma and bachelor’s degree in five years
Trent University and Durham College (DC) have signed new articulation agreements that are making it easier for students to obtain both their DC college diploma and a bachelor’s degree from Trent University.
For the first time, graduates of DCs Police Foundations and Protection, Security and Investigation diploma programs are able to apply to complete accelerated Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees from Trent University.
“We are seeing the demand for these college-to-university pathways grow each year, with students interested in accessing the wide-ranging and distinct learning experiences of post-secondary institutions,” said Dr. Scott Henderson, dean and head of Trent University Durham GTA. “When combined, a degree and a diploma open up a wider range of career options for graduates, plus employers in the region benefit from having access to more skilled professionals with diverse experience.”
Eligible graduates from the Police Foundations and Protection, Security and Investigation diploma programs can receive 5.0 credits toward the 20-credit Bachelor of Arts programs in Policing & Community Well-Being at Trent University Durham GTA and Honours Political Studies at Trent University in Peterborough. Students entering these pathways can obtain their B.A. in just three additional years of study following the completion of their diploma.
Trent and DC have also renewed a transfer agreement which allows graduates of DC’s Horticulture – Food and Farming Technician diploma to enter Trent’s Honours program in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems and complete their B.A. or Bachelor of Science degree through the program in three years.
These pathways will deepen student engagement and understanding by offering a blend of valuable experiential and hands-on learning opportunities, as well as academic exploration of pressing social topics in policing, politics, agriculture and food security. Ultimately students will gain important and relevant transferable skills for many different career paths.

The existing pathway for graduates of DC’s Developmental Services Worker diploma program to enter into Trent’s B.A. Honours in Policing and Community Well-Being program also remains available. Eligible students will receive 5.0 credits toward the 20-credit program to finish their degree in three years.
Trent University and DC share a comprehensive offering of pathways, ranging from studies in business to media to the environment. There are now 22 pathways for Durham College students to complete a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration or Bachelor of Science at Trent University.
