Live performance is coming back! From June 23-27 2021 audiences are invited to join six Indigenous arts companies in four outdoor venues for the inaugural Nogojiwanong Indigenous Fringe Festival (NIFF).
With Covid safety protocols in place, NIFF is presenting a total of 35 performances of music, dance, theatre and comedy for intimate groups. As of today, a maximum of ten tickets are available for each performance online only through https://tickets.showplace.org All tickets are $10 and 100% of ticket sales go directly to the artists.
Thanks to the generosity of Trent University, all performances will take place on the lovely East Bank campus, in the areas around the Enwayaang building, home of the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies and Gzowski College. Shows are scheduled at various times, all finishing by sunset except for three “around the fire” performances at 9 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Festival founder Joeann Argue, says, “We all miss performance. We miss pow wows. We just miss being in the company of others; being in the community. That's why we decided to move ahead with NIFF this year as a fully outdoor festival. Think of it as practice for those golden days ahead when we can gather in larger groups and hugs our friends and family tight. Think of it as a taste of NIFF to come, when Indigenous artists from all over Turtle Island can converge here is Nogojiwanong. Most of all, think of just how excited this year's NIFF artists are to be able to perform live, for you, with no screens in between. We're so excited too and we can't wait to welcome you. “
NIFF is pleased to share the work of the following six arts groups, chosen by lottery as per Fringe tradition: D.B.McLeod, Jennifer Alicia Murrin, Stephanie Pangowish, “Tiger” Will Mason, Vanguardia Dance Projects, Zaagi’idwin Collective.
