Trent Durham Student Association Answers the Call to Aid Students Affected by Pandemic
TDSA COVID-19 Fund provides $10,000 in relief for students
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused financial hardship to many, including students who may find it challenging to cover the costs of life’s essentials. In a continued effort to prioritize the well-being of all students, the Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA) created the TDSA COVID-19 Fund, making $10,000of financial aid available to Trent University Durham GTA students in need.
“The TDSA understands that students are especially vulnerable during a time like this,” states Nick Ryan, president of the TDSA. “We want to support them to make sure they have access to necessities and have the ability to pay bills.”
The TDSA COVID-19 Relief Fund is part of the new Student Rapid Relief Fund (SRRF) established within the University’s #TrentUCares campaign. In keeping with Trent’s role as a national leader for scholarships and bursaries, the new emergency fund initiative was established to raise support and financial assistance in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Mr. Ryan, the funding is a welcome relief for students who have been burdened with added financial strain and the stress that comes with it.
“We are seeing that students are using the money to buy their groceries and pay rent–any of the basic necessities that may have been impacted during this time of uncertainty.”
Funds are available to Trent Durham students at all levels. Domestic and international students are also eligible.
“These are our friends and classmates who are going through this,” Mr. Ryan adds. “We see them in the halls and sit in class with them every day. It reflects a pillar of the Durham Campus, our need to be there and to support each other.”
