Gaining Ground in Durham as Trent University’s Presence Grows
New dean and head of Trent University Durham GTA, Dr. Scott Henderson engages community leaders with his vision for Trent’s role in the future of Durham Region
Community and business leaders in the Oshawa area are being called upon to find inspiration in the expansion of Trent University Durham GTA.
Dr. Scott Henderson, the new dean and head, made his vision for the future of Trent Durham clear. Not only is the new physical building going to increase Trent Durham’s presence, but he also sees expanded opportunities for immersive, hands-on learning where Trent students can round out their education and contribute to the broader community.
“The development of new degree programs that are responsive to community needs and align with emerging employment fields,” is one way Trent Durham is looking to place a significant focus on experiential learning that will benefit both Trent students and local businesses and organizations explained Dr. Henderson.
A major focus for Trent University is on meaningful and purposeful experiential learning across every program.
Interest in the growing opportunities at Trent Durham and the new and varied programs being offered here are proving to be big draws for students. Pre-registration for Trent Durham’s Fall Open House event is up over last year. This comes on the heels of Trent Durham’s biggest first year intake yet just this past September.
Construction of a new student space and residence is underway at Trent Durham. This expanded footprint will change the dynamics of the campus in a positive way and provide some much-needed room to accommodate the growing needs of the community of scholars at Trent Durham.
Dr. Henderson acknowledges that the new building and innovative programming are just the start of a growing campus that aims to meet the needs of the community as both continue to evolve.
“We are not just a community of scholars and students, but rather, we aim to be an integral part of the community here in Durham,” said Dr. Henderson.
