International Institute for Environmental Studies Opens Doors to New Facilities in China
Institute led by Trent University professor emeritus builds new facilities at Nanjing University to accommodate growth of network
The International Institute for Environmental Studies (IIES), a global network of university, government and NGO research organizations, is celebrating the successful completion of its newly built facilities at Nanjing University’s (NJU) School of the Environment.
More than 30 guests attended the opening ceremony, among them were representatives from Trent University, NJU, the Canada China Business Council, and environmental industry.
The IIES was established five years ago as a way for organizations around the world to work together on environmental studies. Led by Trent professor emeritus Dr. Douglas Evans, the IIES has grown to 20 member institutions located across Asia, Europe and North America.
“Our mission is to promote truly international collaboration in environmental science, engineering and policy,” says Professor Evans, director of the IIES. “Now entering our fifth year of successful cooperation among our members and partners, the IIES continues to grow and expand its programs that promote collaboration. The completion of the new facilities will further increase our ability to meet these objectives.”
The new IIES facilities consist of offices for the director, associate director, visiting students and faculty members, as well as a lecture and meeting room. Funding for these facilities was provided by Nanjing University.
