Unifying Athletes & Building Varsity Pride: Trent Unveils New 1Excalibur Identity

Growing record of varsity excellence increasing school spirit, student bonds at Trent

Together we are one excalibur.

There’s no denying the power of sport to bring people together, and that power is growing even stronger at Trent following the launch of the new 1Excalibur identity.

Varsity student-athletes—their energy, passion and drive for excellence—at Trent have increasingly become a gravitational force drawing in everyone across campus and in the community, from students to faculty to staff.

There is growing enthusiasm to support high performance varsity sport at Trent and share in the success of our Excalibur teams. On the field, the women’s lacrosse team won gold at the 2019 OUA championship, the women’s rugby team swept the 2019 OUA awards, and the men’s lacrosse and rugby teams competed among the best at the 2019 CUFLA and OUA championships, respectfully. On the water, our rowers secured six medals at the 2019 OUA championship and one medal at the Canadian University Rowing Championship.

1Excalibur is a reflection not only of the hunger to represent Trent as boldly and loudly as possible, but shows how we achieve success together as one team. 1Excalibur unites everyone to join as our student-athletes achieve excellence both athletically and academically.

"I am a firm believer that people are a product of those they surround themselves with, either raising you up to your best, or dragging you down to your worst,” says Evan Kopsala, a member of the Trent Excalibur Rowing team. “Being surrounded by such positive, driven individuals has pushed me to win multiple OUA medals, graduate with honours, and pursue a Master’s degree. To me, 1Excalibur represents the commonalities we share in our pursuit of excellence; whether it be on the water, on the field, on the court, or in the classroom. "

But there is no doubt that the element of sport is special in its influence on campus unity. Whether you are a student-athlete, student, faculty, staff or community member, every time you arrive on Trent’s campus, you will sense the unshakable feeling that you are in the company of legends and that you are part of the 1Excalibur team.

“As Trent University grows each year, so too does the strength of the Excalibur team,” says Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of Athletics at Trent University. “This campaign exists to celebrate the success of our Excalibur teams and student-athletes with a continued focus on the future of sport in the house of 1Excalibur. Excalibur pride is at an all-time high and it is our time to push the green and white to new levels.””
