Prospective students see Trent community at its best

Over 1000 Visitors Drawn to Trent Open H Trent experienced another record attendance on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Open House on Symons Campus in Peterborough. 450 interested students with their families made up the 1300 guests on campus throughout the day.

New “Ask Me” stations in key locations kept traffic flowing effectively. Welcome stations run by students at each residence created a congenial environment for new students, giving them the opportunity to connect directly with current students.

“Everyone involved from all areas of the University worked very hard on improving an already great event and it showed,” said Melissa Joseph Hill, associate registrar for Recruitment and Admissions. “Guests clearly felt welcomed and informed and saw the best of Trent.”

Visitors were greeted in welcome sessions by Dr. Steven E. Franklin, the president of the University and Dr. Hugh Elton, the dean of Arts and Sciences in the Humanities. The crowds enjoyed performances by the Trent Dance Team and the Trent Gumboot Step Team and presentations by student representatives from each of the Colleges. In addition to speaking directly with faculty and representatives from Student Services, the students were treated to campus tours and mini-lectures spanning a variety of interesting topics.

"It was an outstanding day, thanks to many participants - students, faculty and staff - from across the University,” said Dr. Franklin. “I was very proud to be involved and to see the creative and collaborative efforts to showcase Trent."

Trent University Oshawa Thornton Road Campus will be hosting an Open House in Oshawa on Friday, March 18, 2011.

Registered students can join the Facebook group “I'm Going to Trent U 2011” or “I'm Going to Trent, Oshawa 2011” to see who will be joining them in their first year.
