Research Excellence Recognized: Trent University Named #3 Undergraduate Research University in Canada
University #1 in publication intensity and #2 in publication impact and number of publications in Re$earch Infosource rankings
Reflecting leading-edge research and exceptional faculty performance across all disciplines, Trent University has ranked third research university in Canada, up from last year’s fourth-place ranking, among primarily undergraduate universities for 2015, in a national innovation survey released by Re$earch Infosource on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at researchinfosource.com.
Trent ranked number one in its category for “publication intensity” and placed second for “publication impact” and “number of publications” in its category. Canada-wide, Trent ranked 39th of 98 Canadian Universities, moving up one spot from its position in 2014. Also of note is Trent’s 9th ranking position in Canada for non-profit research income as a percentage of the total university research income which is reflective of Trent’s social impact.
In all rankings, including total sponsored research income and research intensity, Trent was recognized for substantial growth with each area rated higher than its performance in the statistics released in 2014.
“We’re extremely proud with this year’s Re$earch Infosource rankings where we continue to rank as one of Canada’s most research-intensive universities,” said Dr. Neil Emery, vice-president research and international, Trent University. “Our move back into the top three universities in the undergraduate category highlights that, in addition to Trent’s commitment to undergraduate teaching we demonstrate a vibrant intellectual atmosphere on our campus that attracts leading faculty.”
The outstanding research undertaken by faculty at Trent has long been recognized by Re$earch Infosource, among other premier sources, ranking among the top ten research universities of the year for more than ten years running in the primarily undergraduate category.
“Trent’s distinguished historians, scientists, authors, entrepreneurs, and social scientists all contribute to our leading-edge research. Our high research citation rate is evidence that our research has global impact and relevance with top-ranked researchers at other universities,” explains Professor Emery.
