Students of Trent University's Introduction to Creative Writing course (English 375) will present their work in two public readings at 7:30 p.m. on April 2nd and April 9th at the Traill College Senior Common Room.

The annual reading is among the most popular public readings of the academic year, as students read from "freefall" (free association writings done throughout the year) and completed short stories. Demand is high for this third year English course for which a dozen students are selected based on portfolio submissions. Taught by Professor Orm Mitchell, Introduction to Creative Writing is a full year course where students are required to submit weekly creative writing assignments to help them draw from personal and cultural experiences toward the creation of a completed short story.

Throughout the year, the class has visits from writers and publishers and at the end of the course, the writers have their work reviewed by Ottawa-based writer Frances Sitani, who has judged some of the work close to being ready for publication. Professor Mitchell says students range in age from twenty year olds to those in their mid-seventies and the work covers a variety of topics and cultures.

• Caleb Lauer, Theresa McKay, Hollis Moore, Karen O'Connor, and Nan Peacocke

The Traill College Senior Common Room is located at Scott House, 310 London, Peterborough. The two events are free and open to the public.
