Curbside Pickup for Faculty & Graduate Students is available starting June 23rd.

Curbside Pickup Now Available

 

As of June 23, Trent University Library & Archives (TULA) will offer a curbside pickup service for library materials to Trent Faculty and Graduate students:

  • Bata Library: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 am – 4 pm
  • Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 am – 3 pm

Items can be requested through Omni beginning June 18.  

The service is contactless and designed to prioritize the safety of you and our staff, while providing necessary access to physical items in the library.

 

Requesting Items

Sign into Omni and search for library material. When you locate an item you wish to borrow, click "Request" and follow the prompts to select your pickup location.

Library staff gather the requested items and store them until your pickup time. You'll receive an email when your items have been processed. The email will also ask you to select a pickup time from our online booking system. You must schedule a pickup time. 

  • Only eligible library patrons (presently Faculty and Graduate Students) will see the Request option in Omni.
  • Only items that are available for pickup will have the Request option.

 

Picking Up Items

When you place your request in Omni, you select the library where you'd like to pickup your items. The curbside pickup locations are:

  • Bata Library: the designated parking space infront of the Student Centre
  • Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre: the east side of the Durham campus building

Arrive at your scheduled pickup time and phone the number on the Curbside Pickup sign. Library staff will explain how the process will work. Please do not arrive early.

Library staff will then sign out the requested items to your account, place them in a bag, and deliver them to the pickup location. Please do not leave your vehicle. If you are not in a vehicle, stand 2 metres from the pickup banner.

 

Returning Items

We encourage everyone to keep items until their due date. However, if you need to return library material, follow the instructions below for each campus:

  • Bata Library: Items must be returned in the Book Return box located at the front doors of the library, by the bus stop.
  • Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre: Due to construction at the Durham campus, the Book Drop box is inaccessible. If you would like to return items, please email the Durham Campus Library and we will provide further instructions: durhamlibrary@trentu.ca.

Our Omni system works beautifully to transfer items between our two locations. When you request an item, you are asked where you want to pick it up: Bata or Durham. It takes slightly longer for transferred items to arrive, but you'll be notified when they're available at your chosen pickup location.

You can have up to 10 active item requests at a time.

You'll receive an email from the library when your requested items have been processed. The message will direct you to select a pickup time from an online booking system called Setmore.

After you select a time, you'll receive a confirmation email from Setmore.

You can sign into your Omni account at any time to review your requested items. However, you must wait until you receive an email from the library confirming your items have been processed and to select your pickup time.

If you add a note when booking your pickup slot or send email us ahead of time to confirm you'll be there, we will bring your items down at the expected time.

After you select a pickup time, you will receive a confirmation email. The email contains links for rescheduling and cancelling your pickup time.

We're concentrating on "circulating" items on the shelves. Items that are already borrowed by another patron cannot be recalled. Items on hold for someone are not available.

The service is for items that are only available in physical format from the library. If you request an item that is available online, you'll be notified by email.

At this point, all items are due September 12. If we need to extend this, it will be done automatically and you'll be notified of a change in the due date.

The service will be expanded once the necessary resources and capacity are available and when we have determine it is safe to do so. We expect that to be in time for the Fall term.

The physical library has been closed for almost 3 months, and items within it are currently safe. All returned items are being quarantined for the recommended amount of time before being checked in and returned to the stacks.

The Bata Library building is a large and difficult space to monitor and control behaviour. The Durham Campus building is under construction. For now, both locations remain closed to all except the select staff needed to run pickup operations. We are investigating options that will ensure the safety of patrons and staff, and developing a plan for future opening. There is no known date at this time.

Staff are only on site a few days a week, and returned items must be quarantined before they can be checked in, so there will be a delay between when you return your items and when they are removed from your account. If your items haven't been removed from your account after a week, send an email to library@trentu.ca and we'll look into it.
