Glossary: Circulation

The term circulation refers to signing out library items. If a book circulates or it is circulating, that means you are allowed to sign it out. If it's non-circulating, that means it cannot be signed out of the library.

Some items are non-circulating because they're too valuable or in too much demand for us to let them leave the building. Most items circulate, but our Reference collection, some Government Documents, current periodicals, and some important journals are non-circulating.

The Circulation Desk is where you sign out library items. It's located on the main (2nd) floor of the library, near the exit. There is also a self-checkout machine where you can sign out items for yourself.
