Criterion-on-Demand is an online digital delivery feature film system. Users may stream or download from a selection of over 2900 films ranging from classic film, documentaries, international film, North American feature films, cult classics, and more.


Criterion-on-Demand makes use of the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in on both PC and Mac. Users wishing to stream or download films will need to have the plugin installed. See information and download for  Silverlight [external link].  NOTE: The Chrome browser no longer supports Silverlight; use Firefox or Safari.

Allows requests for films that Criterion holds the rights to that have not yet been added to the Criterion-on-Demand service (2-6 weeks). Requests should be sent with sufficient lead time to and should include the 'show date' along with the film information.

Use of streaming media is covered by Copyright. Streaming media is for educational use to support study, teaching, and research and any content streamed through Criterion-on-Demand may not be copied or reproduced in any form. It is intended for instructors, students, or persons working under the authority of Trent University.

When streaming media is shown on Trent's premises for educational purposes, to an audience consisting primarily of students, instructors, or any person who is responsible for setting curriculum at Trent University, members of the general public may be present. Admission fees cannot be collected for public showings unless proof of performance rights have been obtained from the distributor/creator.

Streaming media, or media that is available for download through Criterion-on-Demand, cannot be used on other websites or computer environments such as third party websites or social media platforms.
