Faculty Services: Acquisitions

There is no longer a form for requesting library purchases.

  • Items added to your Leganto Reading List are automatically considered for purchase, and we'll contact you through your list.
  • Omni and Leganto can be used to discover material already available at the Trent Library, or expanded to explore beyond Trent. Use the details provided to request material.
  • Requests for purchases outside of Leganto lists can be sent to library@trentu.ca. Please include details about the item and how it supports Trent's teaching and research.

Acquiring Library Resources

Requests for purchase of library material are submitted through Leganto lists or by email. Priority is given to items on Leganto lists, since they're required for courses and time-sensitive. Emailed requests will be considered as funds are available.

Contact your Liaison Librarian with questions and comments.

Resource Management Guidelines

Download the Word document.

Read the guidelines, process, and criteria we use for maintaining our Library collection.

"These guidelines are intended to provide direction within these changing environments to manage, develop, and provide access to academic information resources. These guidelines also serve as a means to communicate to our stakeholders the intention behind resource management decisions for all Trent University Library sites." (from the Guidelines)

The Internet version of the print magazine CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries, CHOICE reviews significant current books and electronic resources of interest to those in higher education. Each year CHOICE publishes more than 6,500 reviews by subject experts. See the Help guide.

Choice is available through the Academic OneFile database, with a 6-month embargo.  We do not maintain a direct subscription.

Information on submitting material for Library Reserves is on the Submitting Reserve Material webpage.  It seems awkward, but you need to fill in the Reserves form first, so that the RT number can be included on the purchase request form; this is how we match them up.

Items added to Leganto Reading Lists are automatically purchased as ebooks or processed for physical Reserves, depending on the situation. No additional forms are required. You can communicate your preferences through the Leganto list's "Library Discussion".
