As of Monday, April 26, Trent University Library & Archives (TULA) will offer contact-less curbside pickup services for library materials to Trent students, staff, and faculty until the end of the stay-home order. During this time, there will be no access to Bata Library or the Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre. For full details, please see our page about Trent Library & Archives service during COVID-19.

Textbooks & the Bookstore

Textbooks are listed in your course syllabus and can be purchased from the Trent University Bookstore, online or in-person (in Peterborough).  The Library doesn’t sell books.

Normally, the Library doesn't provide copies of textbooks, only supporting research material.  We would only have a copy of a course textbook if:

  • your course instructor provides us with a personal copy for Reserve (3-hour loan), or
  • we've received a donation of that textbook, in which we keep one copy.  It may not be the most recent edition.

Occasionally, a book that's already available in the Library (online or in print) is selected by an instructor as a course textbook.  If it's an e-book, it could have restrictions on the number of simultaneous users.  Ask at the Library if you have trouble accessing books identified through TOPCAT (the Library Catalogue).

Trent Bookstore Pickup and Dropoff

The Library has agreed to act as a pickup and dropoff point for Bookstore purchases made online and delivered to the Durham GTA Library & Learning Centre.

  • All inquiries concerning book orders must be directed to the Bookstore; the Library has no authority to answer on their behalf.
  • The Library keeps track of all packages that arrive; however we don't know what's inside the packages.
  • A signature and identification matching the name on the package are required when picking up packages.
  • The Library can't give permission for returns or take responsibility for returns that are not accepted at the Bookstore.
  • The Bookstore establishes all rules and procedures for book deliveries and returns at the Durham GTA Library & Learning Centre. The Library only passes along information and items.
  • Please allow 2-3 business days for your package to arrive after you have received the pick-up notice email. We receive no warning of what's arriving ahead of time.

Never leave a returned book at the Library without speaking to a Library staff member and ensuring the correct procedure and paperwork is followed.  Non-library books left at the Library cannot be traced back to their owner.
