    Biographical history

    David Carley was born in Peterborough, Ontario in 1955 and educated at Trent University and Queen's University Law School. He was editor of the Kawartha Sun newspaper from 1981-1982 and is currently an editor at Scirocco Press. He is a playwright whose work has been staged internationally. His plays include: Susanna, Sister Jude, Writing With Our Feet, Into, After You, A View From the Roof, Losing Paradise (edited), Taking Liberties, South on Bay, Vanishing Point and many others. He was formerly drama editor for the CBC show "Morningside," editor of Stereodrama, and is now senior script editor for CBC Radio Performance. See also Dave Carley's website.

    Fonds was created by and in the custody of David Langley Carley before being donated to Trent University Archives in 2013.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of correspondence, draft manuscripts, posters, cds, publicity materials, and contracts related to plays of David Langley Carley. Plays and/or episodes in this addition include Backbencher, The Sweaters, Taking Liberties, 5 Hot Plays, Opera on the Rocks, Afghanada, The Taming of the Dude, American Detour, The Brief, Conservatives in Love, Trevi Fountain, Drive Home Dramas, Clockwork Twin, Last Liberal, The Final Hour, and others.

        Backbencher (CBC series): Note: "Backbencher was conceived and written by noted playwright Wendy Lill. Dave was script editor and also wrote some episodes for the popular CBC radio series.
