Voicemail - Initial setup

General Info

  • Your voice mailbox number is the same as your extension number
  • Your password is initially set by the IT Department
  • The storage limit is 100 messages (in instances where messages are not being delivered to email)
  • You may access your voicemail from your handset, from any other university handset or remotely i.e. from a home phone or cell phone
  • By default, voicemail will be forwarded to your email account if we have your email address

Access your voice mailbox for the first time:

From the handset at your desk:

  1. Press message button on the handset on your telephone OR dial 6998
  2. System will automatically connect you to your voicemail box
  3. Enter your password at the prompt

From an extension other than your own located on the Trent phone system:

  1. Dial 1560
  2. Enter your 4-digit extension at the prompt.
  3. Enter your password at the prompt

From remote location (device not on the Trent phone system network)

  1. Dial 1-705-748-1560 OR 1-705-748-1011 extension 1560
  2. Enter your 4-digit extension at the prompt.
  3. Enter your password at the prompt

At first login you will be prompted to:

  1. Change your password.
    1. The system will not accept your extension number as a password. Password can be a minimum of 4 characters to a maximum of 15 characters in length, and cannot contain the characters #pound sign or *asterisk
  2. Record your name
    1. Generally your personal (first/last) name, but this could also be the name of a dept., lab or service for that extension.
  3. Record your UNAVAILABLE message, which will be used when your phone is not answered (and you have not requested any alternate message be used in your absence). This is the default voicemail greeting for callers.
  4. Record your BUSY message, which callers will receive when you are on the line with another caller.
    1. Press the pound sign "#" at this point if you wish to bypass this feature and have the system always use your UNAVAILABLE message.
