Navigating the MyTrent Portal


myTrent is a virtual work or study portal which houses many of the services provided by the University that require authenticated (user name/password) access. Once inside the portal, service provision is tailored based on your role (i.e. student, staff, alumni, etc.) within the community.  

The latest news, events calendar, bulletins and alerts are available on the landing page of the portal allowing the entire community to stay current.

Once you have authenticated into myTrent, you will not be required to sign on again when accessing an application housed within the portal. For students, services such as course registration, access to your Academic record, or the ability to manage the Trent card (check balance/add money) are all available here. For staff, access to many of the applications you will use or forms you will need in your role are housed here.

Each user can customize their experience by dragging their most-used (favourite) icons to the Favourites bar

Logging In

1. Navigate to


2. ​Enter your user credentials in the Username and Password fields in the dialog box at centre screen.

3. Click on either of the Log In buttons (below the username and password fields) OR in the right hand navigation menu.

You will be taken to the MyTrent home page. Follow the navigation steps below.

  • Profile update,including adding your own photo and/or password reset menu if you click on the icon or photo in upper left of screen.


  • 1st Nav (Menu across the upper right) is available on all pages, but may include different selections depending on your identified constituency.

  • 2nd Nav (left column) allows detailed navigation into specific sections housed within the selected page (Figure 1)

  • The "All" option in 2nd Nav consolidates all icons and sections within the selection in alpha order (Figure 2)

Navigating via Paged Sections:

The following is a list (subject to change) of icons representing services or links that are accessible via the various sections of the portal.

It's worth taking a few minutes to explore so you will know how and where to access when needed throughout the academic year.


Services relating to Academic Record, Admissions, Courses, Forms, International Students, Study Abroad & links to Learning Technologies and libraries


Financial Aid and Student Accounts (verify account balance and make payments), including your TrentU Card (check balance/add $$), parking passes, and emergency contact information 


Icons representing:

  • Campus Services: bus schedules, maps, dining info, co-curricular record, print shop, room bookings and Trent card photo upload

  • Conference Services

  • IT Services: Service Dashboard (check here first if you are encountering issues). If service shows as "yellow" or "red" you can be sure that it is being worked on by IT's Service Desk and an additional report is not required. If the service still indicates green, please report your issue to the IT Service Desk. Also included is University licensed software available to staff & or students, media equipment request, student printing (Webprint), videoconference request, Yuja webcasting

  • ​Research: Qualtrics (survey software) and the Romeo research portal


Icons representing many of the most popular student services on campus such as:

  • Academic Support: SAS, appointment bookings with Academic Advisors and the Academic Skills Centre

  • Campus Aid: WalkHome service, Human Rights & Accessibility, Career Centre, Student & Alumni JobBoard, Counselling, Health Centre, etc.

  • TWSP Application (Trent Work-Study Program)

  • Housing Services including residence application,residence agreements, Residence Guidebook and consent for release of information form

  • IT Support: Report a Portal bug and IT Service Request

  • Reference: IT Website and IT Student Charter

  • Student Life: Change College Affiliation, Student Event Risk Assessment, Student Organizations, TCSA, Good2Talk​

Please note: Staff, faculty & constituencies other than students should explore their role-defined options under each portal tab as they will vary from those outlined above.


Search: An integrated search bar is located in the upper right of the screen on all pages so that you can search keywords, partial descriptions, titles, etc. As an example, an entry in the search bar for "first people" returned this screen


The Favourites bar is located across the bottom on the home screen.  Depending on which group you belong to (student, staff, faculty, etc.) there are pre-populated icons in this area already . You can drag and drop any other icon that you regularly use into this space and it will "stick" -- always available to you when you sign into the portal without navigating any further.
