iClicker FAQ for Faculty

Why iClicker?

Research over the last twenty years, especially in the field of physics, has shown that the traditional lecture approach (a predominantly unidirectional flow of information from the instructor to students) is not very successful in facilitating learning. In contrast, a high level of student participation in the classroom allows for deeper understanding of the material and increased enjoyment of the course.

How Do I Get Started?

To get started using iClicker REEF for your class, please contact it@trentu.ca to arrange for an onboarding session. At the onboarding session you will receive a phyiscal iClicker base and instructions for downloading and installing the iClicker REEF application.

What is iClicker REEF

iClicker REEF is the next generation student response system from iClicker. In addition to a streamlined user interface and easier grade sync with Blackboard, REEF also features the ability to collect student responses on a paid app or on a physical clicker. Bookstore Orders

All faculty who will be requiring the use of clickers in their courses must submit an order for iClicker in the same manner as textbook orders.  The orders are placed by contacting the Trent University Bookstore. The bookstore requires advance notice to order and receive sufficient numbers of clickers in advance of the start of classes.

Recommended / Sample Syllabus Language

Clickers (Personal Response Systems): Each student is required to have an iClicker personal response system device OR the iClicker REEF mobile app subscription.  These devices allow real-time interaction, in class, with the instructor for multiple-choice questions related to course material.   As clicker records are used in this course to compute a portion of course grades, the use of a clicker or REEF account other than your own is an academic offense. In lecture or tutorial, possession of more than one clicker, or that of another student, may be interpreted as intent to commit an academic offense.
