Standard System Requirements
The total cost of a computer goes well beyond the initial purchase and extends throughout the entire lifecycle of the computer to include all support and maintenance activity for its 4 year expected lifespan.
Departments and staff are reminded that replacement hardware can be purchased directly from Dell via Trent's Purchasing page.
In order to minimize the cost of support and maintenance of Trent University computer systems, IT specifies a minimum computer system configuration designed to allow standardization with a common software image across all computers. This simplifies the ongoing management and support of those computers via the network. Base configurations on the Dell Premier page are set by IT to meet the minimum recommended spec to deliver a positive user experience.
Since TrentNet is the main campus computer network at Trent University, it provides full access to all of the computing services provided by IT including:
- Active Directory
- Shared Drives S:/ and H:/
- Office 365
- MyTrent portal
- All site licensed software
Access to TrentNet is only available to computers which are running the standard Trent image. Under the terms of our Microsoft Campus Agreement, only those computers which are owned or leased by the University are licensed to run the standard Trent image, and thereby to connect to TrentNet. There shall be no exceptions to these requirements.
RE-DEPLOYED COMPUTERS within the University
Regardless of compatibility with the standard image, all computers receiving a fresh copy of the standard image must meet the following minimum hardware specifications:
|Memory||DDR3; 2 GB (4 GB recommended)|
|Disk Drive||80 GB|
|Network||10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface|
|Video/Graphics||1024 x 768 resolution with 32-bit colour depth|
|Operating System License||
Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise or Windows 8/8.1 Pro or Enterprise or
Note: Devices MUST have Windows 10 driver support. Supported models are listed on the Windows 10 Compatibility Matrix
Devices licensed for Windows Home will qualify for the Trent image under Microsoft's current product terms, but other versions do not qualify and cannot receive the standard image.
Proof of license must be provided, typically by having a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) sticker attached to the device.
