Blackboard - Submitting Video Projects

Background

Often students wish to submit video projects for assignments, and find it difficult to submit them to Blackboard because of upload speed throttling on home internet providers. Furthermore, Blackboard course quotas do not allow for course files to grow beyond a certain point, so students cannot attach video files to a Blackboard drop-box. This user guide will outline how to submit a video project, using a Trent YouTube account.

Privacy Considerations

Many users are reluctant to use YouTube to submit assignments, because of the public nature of the service. Trent YouTube accounts are covered under educational licenses from Google, which contain many privacy features that are not available to the general public. Additionally, it's advisable to use the "Unlisted" setting so that videos are not accessible to a general search.

Process - iOS

  • Using the Camera app, record your video and then proceed to the camera roll app.
  • Press the share button, and select YouTube as your destination

  • When prompted to login, enter your Trent e-mail address
  • When prompted, enter your myTrent username and password

  • Enter a title and relevant information for your video, and select "Unlisted" in the privacy section

  • Upload your video, and wait for a confirmation email from YouTube that your video has been posted
  • Copy and paste the YouTube URL into your Blackboard drop-box and submit it.
