Google Apps for Education is a suite of web-based collaboration and productivity tools which are available to all students throughout their academic career at Trent and beyond. Access to Google Apps is integrated with your myTrent account and can be found under the Email tab of the portal home page. Google Apps includes but is not limited to Google Mail, Sites, Drive, Groups, Calendar, and YouTube.
Please note, if you have a personal Gmail account already it will remain separate from your Trent Google account. Your Google account at Trent is the primary email address and official means of communication between the university and you.
Who gets a Google account at Trent?
Trent University has partnered with Google to provide Google Apps for Education accounts to all undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni. Familiar and modern user interfaces and collaborative tools serve students well in their academic work at Trent, and allow our IT team to better focus our efforts on maintaining other critical IT services.
Do I still need my Trent email address?
Yes. Your Trent email address follows the format : yourname@trentu.ca.
I don't currently have active Trent account. Can I get one?
If you are an alum whose account is no longer active, you will have to request a reactivation using Alumni Account Registration Form
What's included in Google Apps at Trent?
Email account with unlimited storage for any type of file (file size max: 5TB), Google Calendar, Google Docs (Google Drive), and Google Sites as well as Office files.
I already have a personal Gmail account. Do I still need a Google Apps at Trent account?
Yes. Personal Gmail accounts are different than your Trent Google account.

Is there a greater privacy concern when using Google's services?
In response to concerns from Ontario universities, an addendum has been added to the terms of service with Google that ensure Google will comply with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). The Trent University Secretariat has reviewed this addendum and believes that Google will take all reasonable steps to protect the security and confidentiality of your personal information, as required by law.
What about the U.S. Patriot Act?
The Canadian Privacy Commissioner's office has stated that privacy risks from the US Patriot Act are no greater than the risks from domestic or other foreign law enforcement bodies.
Will I be able to use my email client such as Outlook, or Thunderbird?
You can use an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird to read your email on your desktop/laptop/mobile device. Complete instructions are available through Google's help interface.
Will I be able to use my mobile device to read Trent Google email?
IMAP/POP functionality is now available for setting up your phone and handheld device for this new account. Complete instructions are available through Google's help interface. In addition, most mobile devices (Android, iPhone/iPad, Blackberry) have native GMail clients available.
