WiFi eduroam

Description:

What is eduroam?

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.  It is the primary wireless network serving the Trent community and academic visitors. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening their laptop.

Trent users have free access to WiFi Internet services provided at 5,886 eduroam institutions worldwide.

What does this mean to you?

When visiting participating eduroam institutions, you are able to join their "eduroam" WiFi network by logging in with your Trent e-mail address and password. This gives you access to the Internet and depending on local policies at the visited institution, you may also have access to additional resources (for example printers) at your disposal.

How do I connect?

Scan or click on the QR code below, answer the configuration prompts using the drop-down buttons (country,  institution, user group (service) you wish to connect to (eduroam OR RezNet), and your particular device). It will identify the correct installer. Download the installer and follow the next set of prompts to complete the setup.

Note:

You must do this for each device with which you wish to connect to either of Trent's networks.

What does this mean for visiting lecturers, researchers, staff and students?

When a lecturer, researcher, staff, or student visits us from an eduroam member institution, they are able to join our "eduroam" WiFi network (now visible on Trent's network) by logging in with their home institution's credentials.
Users of the eduroam network must abide by Trent University's computing policies and guidelines as well as any guidelines set out by the home/visiting institution.

Park n Surf: Can I access eduroam from my car on campus?

In 2020, Trent IT introduced a new service on both the Symons and Durham campus called "Park 'n Surf" which is a new 24x7 service will allow you to connect to our high speed WIFI network from the comfort of your car.

This service is available to Trent Community members (faculty, staff, students, and other authorized users) through our private eduroam network requiring you to provide your Trent email and password for access.   No public access is currently available.

The use of this service is governed by the university’s Computing Resources Acceptable Use Policy and Network Connection Policy.   University policies can be found at:  https://www.trentu.ca/governance/policies

On Symons Campus, it is located Parking lot "F" between the Athletic Centre and Blackburn Hall behind the stadium. On Durham's campus it is located in the East parking lot area.

Park 'n Surf use is subject to parking restrictions and/or payment requirements, and will be monitored by University Security and parking control officers.
