Vaccine Requirement for All Trent Residence Students
A message for our future students from Dr. Nona Robinson, Associate Vice President of Students
Dear Future Students,
As we plan for in-person learning at both of our campuses this fall, I wanted to share that Trent University has made a decision that students living in our residences will be required to have received at least a first dose – and if possible two doses – of a COVID-19 vaccine before move-in day in September.
Trent’s vaccine requirement applies to students in residence and will help ensure a safe, accessible and enjoyable residence experience this fall. It will also enable students who are more vulnerable to infection to join a residence community.
Students who wish to live in residence but are unable to access a vaccine before arriving on campus will be asked to contact Housing Services to discuss alternate arrangements, and will access a vaccine within 14 days of arrival. The University will be working with Public Health to assist students in this situation. If you cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, or for other protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code, you may request an exemption through Housing Services.
Students who have applied to residence (and yes, residence applications are still open!) will receive more details on the process for exemptions, as well as requirements for proof of vaccination, from Housing Services in the coming weeks. I also encourage you to review our vaccine requirement FAQs and to check back for updates as more information becomes available.
The opportunity to live in residence on campus can greatly enhance students’ university experience. Together with a wide range of other important health and safety measures, including self-screening, masking, physical distancing and enhanced cleaning practices, the vaccine requirement for our residence students will help ensure a dynamic and enjoyable academic year for you and our entire Trent community.
Of course, all of our plans are subject to provincial and public health requirements. As these requirements evolve, we will remain prepared to change course as needed. Be sure to check the Trent Forward website for the latest updates. If you have questions, our Housing team is available to assist you.
We all have a collective responsibility to keep our communities safe. Thank you for doing your part! I can’t wait to welcome you – in-person and on campus – to Trent this fall.
All the best,
Dr. Nona Robinson
