Trent Prof Featured Speaker for Holocaust Education Week
As a Holocaust expert and historian, Trent History professor Dr. Carolyn Kay is an excellent choice to speak at upcoming Holocaust Education Week events.
Professor Kay is delivering three lectures – two in Toronto and one in Peterborough – focused around film and the Holocaust.
“My talks for Holocaust Education Week will look at how cinema has visualized stories of the Holocaust for world-wide audiences, sometimes offering excellent and moving depictions of Holocaust history, and at other times sentimentalizing or even distorting this history,” said Prof. Kay. “As an educator I believe profoundly in the significance of Holocaust history, especially now in an era of rising anti-Semitism, racism and populist nationalism. Film is an essential tool for communicating Holocaust history.”
Holocaust Education Week is organized by the Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre in Toronto, and is always held at the beginning of November.
