A unique Interdisciplinary Social Research Ph.D. program, launching January 2021 at the School of Graduate Studies at Trent University, will equip graduates with advanced research capacity and leadership expertise to address social issues of the past, present and future.
“The Interdisciplinary Social Research Ph.D. marks the first new doctoral level program at Trent in 13 years. It signals a new chapter in the evolution of social sciences and related fields of study at the University,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor. “This truly interdisciplinary program offers a holistic approach with an emphasis on professional scholarship and skills development.”
The Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Social Research (IDSR) builds on Trent University’s renown for interdisciplinary scholarship in the social sciences. With a combined emphasis on social inquiry and interdisciplinary research, the IDSR Ph.D. will provide a theoretical, methodological and experiential training ground for the development of leading scholarship that builds understanding of key social, material and environmental issues facing societies, both historically and in the present day.
Students in the IDSR Ph.D. program will benefit from Trent’s longstanding commitment to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study, experiential learning opportunities and mentorship alongside a diverse range of faculty from the University’s social sciences programs, professional schools and research centres.
“This degree will offer students a pathway into both academic and non-academic research positions in a range of fields including education and caring professions, business and management, and the social sciences,” said Dr. Craig Brunetti, dean of graduate studies at Trent University. “The Interdisciplinary Social Research Ph.D. will allow Trent to train the next generation of social science scholars providing advanced research capacity and leadership in a wide range of social science disciplines.”
Applications for the Interdisciplinary Social Research Ph.D. are now being accepted for January 2021.
