Trent University #1 Undergraduate University in Ontario for Eighth Year Running and #3 in Canada
Ranked the number one undergraduate university in Ontario for the eighth year in a row, and number three in its category for all of Canada, Trent University had a strong showing in the Maclean’s University Rankings issue released today, and topped the charts in a number of other key categories.
Highlights from 2019 Maclean’s University Rankings:
- #1 undergraduate university in Ontario eight years in a row; #3 undergraduate university in Canada
- #1 in Canada for Scholarships 18 years in a row
- #1 in Ontario for Students who have Received National Awards
- #1 in Canada for Academic Advising Staff
- Top 5 undergraduate university in Canada for overall reputation
- #1 undergraduate university in Ontario for highest overall quality
- #2 undergraduate university in Ontario for being the most innovative and for producing leaders of tomorrow

“Trent continues to shine as a top choice for students in Canada and around the world,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “Ranking as the number one undergraduate university in Ontario for the eighth year in a row, and a series of other impressive standings in this year’s Maclean’s rankings, are confirmation of the transformative Trent experience that prepares students for success.”
In addition to the top ranking in the overall undergraduate category, the University also ranked number one in Canada for scholarships and bursaries for an impressive 18 years in a row. In the same undergraduate category, Trent topped the charts in several other key indicators for student satisfaction, including: number one in Canada for academic advising staff; number one for students who have received national awards; and number three in Canada for promoting Indigenous visibility, a new category in this year’s rankings.
In the overall national reputational rankings, which compare all 49 universities across the country, Trent also ranked among the top five undergraduate universities in Canada for overall reputation, the number one university in Ontario for highest overall quality, and the number two undergraduate university in Ontario in the most innovative category and for producing leaders of tomorrow. These national reputational rankings are based on a survey of faculty and senior administrators, high school guidance counsellors and a variety of business people across Canada.
The renowned Trent School of the Environment also received special recognition in this year’s rankings, named among the top 20 universities in all of Canada, across all categories, for top environmental science programs. In the same category, Trent’s environmental science program was ranked among the top 10 in Canada for program and research reputation.
