Careerspace
Trent University's Careerspace offers resources for graduate students to help with career readiness, including workshops, a NEW e-Course, and tip sheets.
Workshops
Workshops are listed under the EVENTS tab on Student Experience Portal page, with both in-person and virtual options. Register in advance for workshops at any time.
Workshop topics cover Resumes & Cover Letters (weekly on Wed, from 3-4pm until April 6th), LinkedIn, Networking & Job Search, and Interview Skills.
Career Workforce and Readiness e-Course (NEW)
The Career and Workforce Readiness e-Course is free and openly accessible, with six modules that can be completed at your own pace. Each module will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete and covers the following career readiness topics:
- Skills identification & articulation (technical & transferable)
- Resume & cover letter writing
- Networking & LinkedIn
- Job search strategies & the labour market
- Interview skills
- Workplace communication & professionalism
Tip Sheets
Many tip sheets are available, covering all career readiness topics, along with examples of resumes (skills- and experience-based)
Mitacs
Mitacs Training provides professional skills development courses for all Canadian university students. To register for these courses, visit the EDGE portal, create an account and choose the e-learning course you would like to take under the ‘Catalog’ heading of the Mitacs Training page. All courses listed below are self-paced e-learning (asynchronous), and are available throughout the year.
The themes include:
- Career planning – 90 min
- Networking skills – 90 min
- Communication skills – 120 min
- Leadership skills – 90 min
- Writing and presentation skills – 90 min
- Project and time management – 120 min
- R&D management – 120 min
- Reconciliation and EDI – 60 min
