Degrassi Producer Visits Trent to Share Insight into Media Landscape

Linda Schuyler, the producer of the hit Canadian television series Degrassi and author of The Mother of All Degrassi: A Memoir, recently visited Dr. Mark Dickinson’s Canadian Studies class, CAST 2225: Ontario Since 1945, to speak about her new book and share her insights about life in Canada and the media landscape.

Schuyler's discussion was lively and informative, as she shared her passion for creating impactful content and her experiences in the industry. Trent chancellor, Dr. Stephen Stohn ‘66, who is Schuyler’s partner and fellow producer, facilitated a talk where students learned about the ways Degrassi handled critically important topics of childhood and adolescence, including education, gender issues, and politics.

The visit was a testament to the engaged community of scholars at Trent, who bring lessons to life with interactive common room seminars. Special recognition was given to Professor Dickinson, the recipient of the 2014 Symons Teaching Award, for his role as an engaging educator both inside the classroom and on the land.
