Admission Information for Indigenous Students

Greetings from Trent University! Trent values Indigeneity and the knowledge, perspective and voice you bring to the Trent community as a person of Indigenous Ancestry.

There are two application pathways for Students of Indigenous Ancestry (First Nations, Métis or Inuit, Status or Non-Status):

  1. Degree Program:

Indigenous students who have followed a traditional academic path are eligible to apply to Trent directly through the secondary student undergraduate applicant process.

To review admission requirements, view the Ontario Secondary Student requirements.

  2. Indigenous Diploma Program:

The Indigenous Diploma Program at Trent University is a program for applicants of Indigenous ancestry who wish to pursue university level studies, and who may not have taken a traditional academic path towards post-secondary education and may benefit from studying in a supportive academic atmosphere for Indigenous students.

Who Am I?

Current Secondary Students

You are a current secondary student who self-identifies as being of Indigenous ancestry who has followed a non-traditional academic path.

You will fill out a “101” form on the OUAC website (OUAC), identifying the Indigenous Diploma Program as your program choice.  You will also be required to fill out the Indigenous Diploma Supplemental Application form, which can be found under the "Academics" tab of your myTrent portal.

Non-Current Secondary Students

You are not currently enrolled in secondary school. You self-identify as of Indigenous ancestry and have not followed a traditional academic path towards post-secondary education. You may be a mature student, or a student who has experienced extenuating circumstances you feel impacted your academic success over the course of your academic history.

Students who identify as non-current secondary students of Indigenous ancestry will fill out the 105-D form on the OUAC site, identifying the Indigenous Diploma Program as your program choice. You will also be required to fill out the Indigenous Diploma Supplemental Application form, which can be found under the "Academics" tab of your myTrent portal.

How Do I Apply?

Students applying to an Indigenous Diploma Program must submit an online application through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC), as well as submit the Indigenous Diploma Supplemental Application form through the "Academics" tab of the myTrent portal after applying on OUAC.

Self-Identification

INdigenous student dancing on stage against a black backdropSelf-identifying your Indigenous ancestry on your OUAC application will ensure that you are connected with our Indigenous student supports: academic, cultural, financial, and others. Access First Peoples House of Learning (Indigenous Student Support Services) for more information: www.trentu.ca/fphl

OUAC will ask you to create an account and will provide you with a P.I.N. (Personal Identification Number), which allows you to access your account and application.

An alternative method of Indigenous Self-Identification can be made by completing our confidential Indigenous Self-Identification Survey:
