Mediterranean Archaeology

Study the archaeology of a time and place not explored in other Archaeology programs in Ontario with professors who are experts currently working in the field.
specialization

Take your learning beyond the traditional study of early Greece and Rome and study how the modern Mediterranean is influenced by its ancient remains. This distinctive specialization offers unrivaled opportunities to examine the complexities of the art, architecture, and cultures of an area steeped in antiquity.

Courses

Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a single- or joint-major Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree in Archaeology may graduate with a Specialization in Mediterranean Archaeology if they have successfully completed the following 4.0 credits:

2.0 ANTH-AHCL credits consisting of:

  • ANTH-AHCL 2205H: Archaeology and Art Histrory of Ancient Greece
  • ANTH-AHCL 2206H (or AHCL 2200Y): Archaeology and Art History of Ancient Rome

2.0 ANTH-AHCL credits from:

  • ANTH-AHCL 2201H: Introduction to Egyptian Archaeology from the Pharaohs to the Romans
  • ANTH-AHCL-HIST 3221H (or 3220Y): State Religion in Ancient Greece and Rome
  • ANTH-AHCL-HIST 3222H: Mystery Cults and Restricted Rituals in the Ancient Mediterranean
  • ANTH-AHCL 3240H: Etruscan Archaeology, ca. 1000-200 BCE
  • ANTH-AHCL 3250H: Aegean Bronze Age Archaeology
  • ANTH-AHCL 3251H: The Archaeology of Ancient Athens
  • ANTH-AHCL 3252H: Current Topics in Mediterreanean Archaeology
  • ANTH-AHCL-HIST 3275H: Cultural Identity and Ancient North Africa
  • ANTH-AHCL 4003H: Senior Seminar in Classical Archaeology
  • ANTH-AHCL 4145H: Cultural Heritage: Threats and Responses
