Latin American Studies

Study alongside experts in Latin American Studies in this unique specialization at Trent to learn more about the historical, political, and culture significance of South America. You can participate in the Trent-in-Bolivia semester abroad, which features a hands-on community development project, which can be applied as credit towards your degree.

Graduating students who have fulfilled the requirements for a single- or joint-major Honours or General degree may apply for a Specialization in Latin American Studies if they have successfully completed the following 5.0 credits:

1.0 IDST credit consisting of:

• IDST 1001H: Human Inequality in Global Perspective
• IDST 1002H: Issues in Global Human Inequality

1.0 SPAN credit from:

• SPAN 1000Y: Introduction to Spanish
• SPAN 1001H: Introduction to Spanish I
• SPAN 1002H: Introduction to Spanish II*
• SPAN 2001H: Intermediate Spanish I
• SPAN2002H: Intermediate Spanish II**

1.5 IDST credits consisting of:

• IDST 3760Y: Bolivian Seminar
• 3830H: Field Course in Andean Community Development

1.0 SPAN credit consisting of:

• SPAN 2501H: Advanced Intermediate Spanish I
• SPAN 2502H: Advanced Intermediate Spanish II

0.5 additional credit in IDST or SPAN

* Students whose level of fluency in Spanish is judged to exceed the level of SPAN 1000Y are exempt from this requirement

** Students whose level of fluency in Spanish is judged to exceed the level of SPAN 2002H are exempt from this requirement
