The First Peoples House of Learning (FPHL) acknowledges and celebrates the strengths and fragility of the human spirit. Our Cultural Counsellor provides services that respect the dignity and value of all people inclusive of age, gender, ethnicity, physical qualities, sexual identity and ability. Counselling is conducted on an individual basis to help students with everything from personal support to their emotional wellbeing. Students are encouraged to stop by in person or by telephone or email to make an appointment.
About our Cultural Counsellor:
Betty Carr-Braint has her Masters of Social Work, Indigenous Based from Wilfrid Laurier University. She holds a certificate in Traditional Healing & Counseling, a certificate in Returning the Bundle (Traditional Practitioner) program and a certificate for the Indigenous Community Health Approaches program from FNTI. She is certified as a Grief Recovery Specialist through the Grief Recovery Institute and has also obtained her Indigenous Addictions Services Certificate from the Neichi Institute.
She has worked in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory for over twenty-six years with the last 20 in social work, Indigenous based practice and programming.
