New Crime Scene Facility

Trent University’s new Forensic Crime Facility sets new academic and environmental standards all at once, as a first-of-its-kind professional forensics training building constructed on a Canadian university campus—and with a goal to be Canada’s first zero-carbon building certified by the International Living Future Institute.

With the new building, the University combines its renowned forensics leadership with its reputation as one of Canada’s top environmental teaching and research universities.

DNA Building

Trent University's Forensic Science Program is housed in the DNA Building which supports the undergraduate degree program and the DNA Forensic Research Centre.

Forensic Science students are fully immersed in a functioning forensic research and service environment focusing on the increasingly diverse applications in non-human forensic science (e.g. wildlife genetics, domestic animal tracking, pathogen tracking, bioterrorism agents) which will form the future job market for graduates.

A significant component of the Research Centre is the WildLife DNA Forensics Laboratory. While most cases involve wildlife statutes, the lab has processed non-human DNA samples for the Ontario Provincial Police and the RCMP for human-related investigations.

Also supporting the forensic education is the research and development of state-of-the-art robotic automation infrastructure. This training will position our graduates for the changing workforce of forensic science laboratories.
