Peter Gzowski Northern Scholarship
2021 Winner Jadyn Gay
The TSE is pleased to award the Peter Gzowski Northern Scholarship to Jadyn Gay. Jadyn was nominated by Dr Chris Furgal to recognize their passion for Nothern Studies and especially their current thesis work on environmental health risk perception and exposure/ body burden of lead from environmental sources among Inuit in Nunavik.
This thesis aims to address the lack of knowledge on risk perception and how health messaging impacts communities. The research seeks to understand how the perception of lead contaminants in Country food impacts the actual exposure in pregnant Inuit women. Using an existing data set collected in 2016-2017, pregnant Inuit women and their perception of contaminant risk in Country foods will be explored in relation to their blood lead concentration.
The Gzowski Scholarship recognizes academic excellence for students with an interest and passion for northern research. The award was sponsored by a donation from friends of the Gzowski family to honour Trent's former chancellor.
