Michael Fox
Professor Emeritus and Part Time Instructor
Research interests
- Fish ecology. Adaptations of invasive species and their effects on aquatic communities. Management of fishes and aquatic systems. Life history adaptations of fishes to their abiotic and biotic environment, as well as exotic species introductions in Canada and Europe, and factors that affect their invasion success. Habitat selection of native and invasive stream fishes. Involved locally, in partnership with the Peterborough Field Naturalists and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, on movement and habitat selection of urban brook trout in Harper Creek. You can read more about the Harper Creek research on the Peterborough Field Naturalists website.

Don Mackay
Professor Emeritus
Topics have included the study of oil spills, especially in the Arctic, assessments of contamination in the Great Lakes, bioaccumulation in a variety of organisms from Invertebrates to fish, whales and humans, and the measurement and prediction of physicochemical properties of toxic substances. He introduced the concept of fugacity as a tool for environmental modelling and he founded, with Dr Eva Webster, the Canadian Environmental Modelling Centre (CEMC) at Trent University in 1995. He continues a modest research effort, primarily with Professor J. Mark Parnis of the Chemistry Department, the current Director of the CEMC and his students on environmental fate and transport modelling in a variety of ecosystems and novel methods of chemical property prediction.

Chris Metcalfe
Professor Emeritus
Research Interests
Determination of the environmental fate and toxic effects of organic contaminants in the aquatic environment, especially in the fate and toxic effects of halogenated aromatic hydrocarbonons, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, alkylphenol ethoxylate surfactants and prescription and non- prescription drugs in the aquatic environment. Research on endocrine disruption in fish as well as international research experience through work in Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador and Indonesia.
