Mentorship in Inquiry

*** This opportunity is currently not offered ***

Inquiry-based learning is becoming increasingly popular in Ontario schools and beyond, with multiple supporting documents provided by Ontario’s Ministry of Education, and increasing expectations that teachers will incorporate inquiry strategies. This is founded in an abundance of evidence that affirms the benefits both to academic skills and success (e.g., grades, information literacy, retention, reading and writing ability, etc.), and personal well-being (e.g., confidence, autonomy, perseverance, creativity, etc.), that students can gain in learning through inquiry.

Through the Mentorship in Inquiry Alternative Placement, you will develop first-hand experience with inquiry in the classroom. You will be partnered with students from a local school, acting as a mentor in a student-driven inquiry project. You will be responsible for helping students identify a topic, supporting effective questioning and investigation, and assisting students in creating a product to demonstrate their learning. Products created by the students will be showcased at an event intended to share and celebrate learning.
