Fall Start-Up is wrapped up!! Thanks to all students who participated in the events!
Trent University Durham-GTA and the Trent Durham Student Association will be hosting Fall Start-up Orientation for all incoming students.
Whether you are a new student coming directly from high school, a transfer student, a mature student, or an international student, TrentU Durham-GTA’s Orientation Program is the first step in providing you with the tools and information you need to start your university career off strong.
Orientation events and activities are designed to help you transition to your new campus. Within the Orientation events, you will have opportunities to connect with other incoming students, learn about campus services and facilities, meet your new faculty and staff, and experience what Trent has to offer.

Sunday, September 1st – Wonderland Hangout Trip

As part of our offerings for orientation, this year we are running a trip to Canada's Wonderland for new students wishing to meet and hangout with other new students, current students, and orientation leaders while having a great time visiting the best theme park in Canada.
There is limited space on the trip so it is a first come, first serve event. We have a special discounted rate per ticket which includes admission and transportation to the park from the Durham Campus.
$30.00 for Students who Opted-In to the Orientation Fee

Tuesday, September 3rd – Social Orientation Day
The purpose of the first day of the Fall Start-up is to become familiar with the campus, your peers, staff and faculty, and life at TrentU Durham-GTA. It will be an engaging day filled with fun experiences as you transition into your first days of university life!
1:00 pm – Arrival & Registration
Once you arrive on campus, check in with our Orientation Leaders in the Front Atrium. From there, you will be able to pick up your student ID, bus pass, and athletics memberships. Then grab your free orientation t-shirt and swag, and head in to meet your fellow new students!!
**Don’t forget to upload your image for your student ID and bus pass!! Take a selfie and go to your myTrent under Services to upload.**
1:30 pm – Opening Ceremonies
Hear from our Master of Ceremonies, Hema Tikaram, the Vice-President of Campus Life for the Trent Durham Student Association as she welcomes all new and transfer students to TrentU Durham GTA. We will also have a special welcome message from Scott Henderson, the Dean and Head of our campus.
2:00 pm – Large Icebreakers/Energy Games
Before getting into the main events, all teams will participate in large-scale icebreakers/energy games, giving new students the opportunity to meet other first-years and become more acquainted with the Orientation Leaders. This will also give everyone a chance to get the blood flowing and prepare for the Campus Cup!
2:30 pm – Guest Speaker: Surprise Guest
Our guest speaker this year is a very dynamic individual who brings a unique message to all new students. We can't wait to tell you who they are. Stay tuned for the reveal!
3.45 pm – Challenge Cup Competition
The Trent University Durham Campus Cup is our greatest orientation competition, giving students the opportunity to participate in various games and activities as they strive to win the cup for their team! With games ranging from physical competitions to intellectual challenges, there is something for each student to participate in. Teams will gain points through each activity, and the top team will be awarded with the coveted Campus Cup!
5:45 pm – Campus Cup Ceremony
At the end of the competition, we award the cup to the team with the most points. The winners will hoist the cup high and have their pictures and names engraved forever!
6:00 pm – Campus Fair!!!
We will be hosting a ‘Campus Fair’ where new and transfer students will get free food truck tickets to grab a bite at the many selections coming to our event. Then, you can grab a group of friends to take on the inflatable games we will have, like the bungee ball or the obstacle course, or, try your hand at our exciting new addition to Orientation: axe throwing! Lastly, relax and chat the evening away with some good music as the night comes to an end.
Wednesday, September 4th – Academic Orientation Day
The purpose of the second day of the Fall Start-up is to prepare you for the dynamics of university academics and also familiarize you with the various supports and services on campus to help you in your journey. A series of workshops which will introduce strategies to develop your skills will be held throughout the day.
8:45 am – Mature and Transfer Student Orientation Breakfast
Mature and Transfer Students will have an opportunity to discuss transitioning to Trent University with staff, faculty, and other students with similar experiences in coming to our campus.
9:00 am – Arrival & Registration
After checking in at the front desk, students can grab a coffee or tea and head into our biggest lecture hall to hear from some of our amazing staff and even some special guests!
9:30 am – Welcome & First Lecture
Sit in on your very first lecture, given by Dr. Joel Baetz, to get an idea of what to expect coming into university.
10:00 am – Guest Speaker: Julie Lalonde
Julie Lalonde is a leading advocate in her efforts to end violence against women, including her previous work through the Draw the Line campaign. She has received numerous awards of recognition for her contributions and can be seen across the country sharing her presentations on women’s rights advocacy.
11:00 am – Advising & Career Session
Listen to our Academic team talk about the expectations that we strive for at Trent University as he discusses different ideas related to academic success and student involvement on campus.
12:00 pm – Program Orientations and Lunch
Faculty from each program and major will be here to share in food and fundamentals. You will have the opportunity to talk to professors in your program and hear from other upper year students about their experiences in the classroom and about their time at TrentU Durham GTA.
1:00 pm – Ontario Shores Mental Health Sessions
A speaker from Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Science will be speaking to new students about mental health, specifically resilience and coping, normalizing stress, and planning.
3:00 pm – Closing Ceremonies & Awards
During closing remarks, we will be handing out awards to new students who showcase exemplary energy and enthusiasm as a part of the TrentU Durham GTA family.
Thursday, September 5th - Trent Durham Student Association Vendors Alley
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
TDSA will be in the atrium on the first day of class to hand out first day survival packs. They will also be hosting a vendor’s alley featuring local businesses who will be showcasing their establishments and providing free giveaways.
There is no registration required for this, just show up on campus to get your gift and a chance to win great stuff!
Friday, September 6th - Trent Durham Student Association Movie Night
3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
TDSA will be running a movie night at Landmark Cinemas open to all new and returning students.
