Honouring Remembrance Day

On Monday, November 11, Trent University will mark Remembrance Day, offering our gratitude to those serving, and those who have previously served, as members of Canada’s Armed Forces. We pay tribute to the men and women of the Canadian Armed Services who have bravely defended our nation’s values and freedoms.
In honour of Remembrance Day, the entire Trent community is encouraged to participate in observances and events on campus and in our local communities, including:
Campus Events & Observances
- Peterborough Campus: At 11:00 a.m., the Last Post will be played over the public address system in the Bata Library and will be followed by two-minutes of silence and reflection. Students, staff and faculty are invited to gather at 10:55 a.m. near a Remembrance Day display to be featured in the atrium of the Bata Library to observe the minutes of silence together.
- Durham GTA Campus: the Trent Durham History in Community Club will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on the front atrium from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., concluding in two-minutes of silence. The ceremony follows a week-long ‘I wear a poppy because’ campaign on campus.
Community Events
- City of Peterborough Remembrance Day Ceremony at Confederation Square (499 George Street North, across from City Hall), beginning at 10:00 a.m.
- City of Oshawa Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony 10:25 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; R.S. McLaughlin Armoury to Memorial Park Cenotaph (110 Simcoe Street South); Cenotaph ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m.
- Remembrance Day services will also be held in communities throughout Ontario, including Lakefield, Curve Lake, and more. Find a ceremony near you.
For those unable to attend a formal event, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the exact same time as marked the signing of the Armistice to end the Great War (WW1) – the entire Trent community is encouraged to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of those who have served.
In honour of Remembrance Day, the flag atop the Bata Library will be lowered to half mast the morning of November 11.
