Transitioning from Trent Durham: Diversity of Topics Leads Business Admin Grad to Professional Advantage
Alexandra Manikas graduated from Trent Durham GTA’s Business Administration with a minor in Psychology and specializations in Human Resource Management and Marketing & Consumer Culture. After studying Mental Health Psychology for two years, Ms. Manikas made the leap to pursue her interest in psychology and passion for business.
“I appreciate the fact that no one told me ‘no’,” says Ms. Manikas. “I was able to dabble in so many different disciplines.”
In 2017, she leveraged real-world work experience from a summer placement at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) by applying an internship credit that she received towards her specialization in Marketing.
Ms. Manikas took on many leadership roles on campus including: president of the Trent Durham Business Association, director of business administration and director of psychology for the Trent Durham Student Association, vice president of the Trent Durham Student Wellness Association and Jeux de Commerce Central HR delegate.
“These positions taught me how to be a leader, an innovator, a listener, a planner, a presenter, and a solution finder,” she says. “Trent Durham offers so many opportunities that allow for team building and soft skills development. Now I can draw on them when needed. It gives me a well-rounded perspective and wider range of knowledge.”
While currently searching for a career, Ms. Manikas hopes to travel. She plans to seek higher designations such as a master’s degree.
