Social Justice Panel Connects Trent Durham GTA Students with Community Initiatives
Guest speakers from Girls Inc., Durham Family Court Clinic, and academic researchers, gathered at the Durham GTA campus to speak about community disparities and what the work of their organizations is doing to tackle these issues. Over 60 students gathered in the atrium to learn about opportunities to engage their community in local issues facing children and families.
Speaking of the event, Dr. Alba Agostino, professor of Child and Youth Studies, said: “We were excited to hold Child and Youth Studies first Social Justice Panel to provide our students with an opportunity to learn more about current legal and social justice topics concerning children and youth from both an academic and applied perspective. This event gave us the chance to introduce our students to community organizations supporting our children and youth and also university researchers studying current legal and social justice issues.”
Through engaging conversations, students had the opportunity to learn more about potential placement opportunities and other volunteer experiences that create positive change in our local community.
