Trent University Durham GTA Assistant Professor Launches First Book
Assistant professor of English, Dr. Amanda Paxton, was surrounded by the Trent Durham GTA community for the launch of her first book, Willful Submission: Sado-Erotics and Heavenly Marriage in Victorian Religious Poetry, on Thursday, February 15.
Described by students as the “best of the best” and “all kinds of awesome,” in an introduction to the evening provided by Dr. Joel Baetz, the respect and admiration for Professor Paxton by her students was evident as those in attendance listened to her describe how she came to write this book.
“Surprise, surprise, I was the only one to write a book on this topic,” laughed Prof. Paxton as she explained her interest in this specialized area of literature. Before starting into a reading from her book, she invited two of her students, Taylor Dobbs and Jessica Nash, to each read examples of some of her favourite pieces that inspired her own writing and research.
The evening concluded with students chatting with Prof. Paxton as she signed copies of her book with personalized messages for each student.
